A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a first responder, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
