Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his position after another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the team's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win naturally but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented familiar failings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell of this nature with performances this poor.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
