Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the player will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “However, I can share, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD shared security footage earlier this week of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims according to reports.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday near MSG and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was transported to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since learning of the incident. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a baby.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
“There is a procedure involved, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive during the current season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with a shoulder issue that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in spring and was expected to be a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. His commitment is total. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
