Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying 36 points Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho turn leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
