The striker moved to Arsenal after leaving Sporting in July

Arsenal forward Viktor Gyokeres has been omitted in the new manager's initial Sweden team selection, whereas Reds striker the talented attacker has earned a place

Gyokeres is due for further medical tests this week following worries of a hamstring injury during the Gunners's Premier League victory at Burnley last weekend

The 27-year-old was absent from the Gunners' European success versus the Czech side earlier this week

Alexander Isak Back in Action

Isak, absent from action from 22 October because of muscle issues, made the squad to play in the World Cup matches against Switzerland (15 November) plus the Slovenian side (18 November)

Additional England-based Selections

  • Spurs midfielder Lucas Bergvall, who is recovering after a head knock
  • Magpies winger Anthony Elanga

Both athletes are among Potter's England-based contingent selected under former Brighton, Chelsea and West Ham coach the new Swedish coach

The New Manager's Appointment

Potter was named by Sweden first temporarily in late October, under four weeks after his departure by West Ham

Former boss Jon Dahl Tomasson lost his job after Sweden's defeat to the Kosovan team on 13 October, an outcome which rendered direct progression from Group B out of reach

Present Situation

The Swedish team are currently last place of Group B having only a single point in four matches

Even if they don't manage to secure second place, there remains a chance they might be involved in the World Cup play-offs due to of their results during the previous UEFA competition
