The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
